Rhyme - To Let You Go

Adolescence is the time of heart stopping crushes, unbelievable romantic gestures and an exaggerated number of infatuations among other feelings. Most of us have experience with these strange sensations but many don't realise the awkwardness of the situation when these feelings are not reciprocated. 'To Let You Go' is a take on the clumsiness that the romantic butterflies in the stomach forces one into.

I remember the day when I saw you strolling
around with your friends and I
couldn't help myself falling
in love with you.

I remember the day when you were standing
just a few meters away from me and I
pushed myself in taking
my first steps to you.

You were probably surprised when I walked past you
without uttering a single word and I
cursed myself for missing
that opportunity of telling you.

But there are things
no matter how hard you try
that just won't work out
that you just can't get right

I remember the day when you caught me staring
watching you from afar and I
blushed, you noticed, before turning
my face away from you.

I remember the day when I saw you sitting
all by yourself in the park and I
forced myself into making
an actual conversation with you.

I know I could have said things a bit better
to win your attention and I
could have taken a different way altogether
to say how much I'm into you

But there are things
no matter how hard you try
that just won't work out
that you just can't get right

It doesn't come much as a surprise
that you don't seem me eye to eye.
I imagine that you consider me to be
nothing more than a creepy and awful guy.

I always thought that your subtlety meant
something close to an unspoken consent
but now that I have learned my lesson
there are only a few words that need to be spoken

And I don't wanna let you go
but I know the time is right.
I don't wanna let you go
but I know this will be goodbye.
